Social inspections update - a new year, new flash checks

28 Jan 2022

The Social Intelligence and Investigation Service (‘SIOD’/‘SIRS’) announced that the social inspectorates will continue their flash checks – which are mostly informative and preventive in nature – throughout the year of 2022. In the wake of the inspections that took place in 2021, the SIOD will continue its efforts and is planning inspections in some of the sectors that were already in scope in 2021– such as the construction sector – but also in sectors that were not inspected in 2021, such as the security sector.

The dates of these flash checks are announced beforehand to the social partners and published on the website of the SIOD/SIRS.

In 2022, flash checks will be organised:

  • in January, in the security sector (joint committee no. 317);

  • in February, in the transport sector (joint committee no. 140, including courier companies (joint sub-committee no. 140.03);

  • in May, in the construction sector (joint committee no. 124);

  • in July, in the hospitality sector (joint committee no. 302);

  • in September, in the agriculture - and horticulture sector (joint committees no. 144 and 145);

  • in November,  in large cities, including the car wash sector (joint committee no. 112).

Employers can already prepare for these flash checks by using the sector specific checklists, which can be found on the website of the SIOD, or by using our latest book, written by Bart Elias and Stefanie van de Perre. The book contains a full overview of all possible (labour) inspectorate services in our country and the different scenarios you could encounter as an employer, as well as a full checklist to take into account when dealing with social inspectorate services.

If you have any questions regarding the above, don’t hesitate to reach out; we’d love to hear from you.
