Social inspections update - strategic plan 2022-2025

Earlier this month, the Council of Ministers approved the Social Intelligence and Investigation Service’s (SIIS) strategic plan to combat social fraud and social dumping for the period 2022-2025.
Each year, the SIIS publishes their operational action plan, which included e.g. their planned flash checks – on which we reported last month. This is the first time, however, that they’re also presenting an overarching strategic plan to combat social fraud and social dumping, covering a four year period.
The plan contains seven strategic goals, ranked in order of importance:
Reducing social fraud and social dumping by strengthening European and international cooperation;
Safeguarding Belgian companies’ competitiveness, thus guaranteeing fair competition;
Creating an inclusive labour market that guarantees safe and healthy working conditions for all employees;
Strengthening the inspectorate services to ensure an increased capacity to act and greater impact;
Simplifying administration (including digitalisation) and legislation and improving information to increase transparency, prevent unintentional irregularities and combat social engineering;
Increasing the risk to get caught and enhancing the effectiveness of sanctions;
Preventing social fraud.

In order to reach these strategic goals, the plan puts emphasis on increased national and cross-border cooperation between the different social inspectorate services and technological advancements, such as datamining/datamatching. These evolutions, that we’ve already been seeing at play, can greatly increase the reach and effectiveness of social inspections.
